“Hands Off My Wife”: JD Vance Fires Back at Personal Attacks

In an interview on ABC’s “This Week” with Jonathan Karl on Sunday, August 11, Sen. JD Vance, who is running as former President Donald Trump’s 2024 running mate, addressed the attacks on his wife, Usha Vance. He dismissed the criticism as racist and unfounded, suggesting that it comes from people who are less attractive than his wife.

Vance acknowledged the racist nature of the comments, agreeing with Karl’s observation. Karl then mentioned that Fuentes had dined with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago during the campaign, hinting at a connection to Trump. In response, Vance defended Trump, stating that Trump is uninvolved and uninterested in such matters. He praised his wife, describing her as both beautiful and intelligent, and asserted, “What kind of man marries Usha? A very smart and very lucky man.”

When Karl pressed further, Vance reiterated that while criticism of his policies is fair game, attacks on his wife are off-limits. He stated, “If people want to challenge my views or personality, that’s fine, but they shouldn’t attack my wife. She’s out of your league.”

Karl attempted to link the attacks to Trump, pointing out that Trump had not fully denounced Fuentes. Vance dismissed this criticism, noting that Trump has condemned various issues and that speaking with someone doesn’t equate to endorsing their views. He added, “Donald Trump has always been kind to my wife, offering her hugs and compliments.”

Vance wrapped up by expressing his concern over the attacks but acknowledged that such scrutiny comes with political life. He expressed confidence in his wife’s ability to handle the criticism and wished the focus would remain on him rather than personal attacks.
