Several Members Of Gospel Hall Of Fame Quartet, The Nelons, Die In Tragic Plane Crash

Three members of the hall of fame Gospel Quartet, The Nelons, died in a tragic plane crash in Wyoming last week. Among the seven deaths that occurred in the accident, musicians Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter, Amber Nelon Kistler, lost their lives.  In the aftermath of the tragedy, an outpouring of prayers and support has been extended to those impacted.

The daughter and fourth band member who was not on the plane, Autumn Nelon Streetman, released a statement on the tragedy.  “As many of you have heard by now, my father and mother, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister, Amber, and brother-in-law, Nathan, as well as our dear friends Melodi Hodges, Larry and Melissa Haynie, were involved in a tragic plane crash on Friday,” she said in her message.

Streetman expressed gratitude for the prayers and support she and her family have received in the aftermath of the crash.  “Thank you for the prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. We appreciate your continued prayers, love, and support as we navigate the coming days,” she said.

The Campbell County, Wyoming Government posted a statement on Facebook shedding light on the details surrounding the fatal plane crash. “Today, July 26, 2024 at approximately 1300 hours, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputies, Campbell County Fire Department and Campbell County Health EMS responded to the report of an airplane which had crashed north of Gillette,” the post read.

The social media message noted there were fatalities in the accident, further stating, “The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is the investigating agency and has dispatched a team to conduct the investigation. There are fatalities as a result of this crash, however further information regarding fatalities will not be released from local agencies.”

“As a result of this incident, a wildland fire was caused near the crash site. Campbell County Fire Department units are currently working to suppress the fire. Suppression efforts include aircraft, heavy equipment and engine crews. Additional information on the status of that fire will be released from Campbell County Fire Department,” the Facebook post concluded.

As the quartet were based out of Atlanta, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp shared a message of support on X.  “Marty, the girls and I are truly saddened to learn of the tragic death of Larry Haynie and his wife, Lisa, along with all those lost in this horrible plane accident,” Kemp wrote. “As chairman of the Georgia Department of Corrections Board and through a career of valued service in public safety, Larry’s impact on our state will not be forgotten.”

According to statements from National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Keith Holloway on Saturday, the incident is still under investigation. “The aircraft is in a remote location and once they gain access, they will begin documenting the scene, examining the aircraft.  The aircraft will then be recovered and taken to a secure facility for further evaluation,” Holloway explained.
